9 Ways to be a Woman. Not a Girl.
Be self-confident
The best way to be happy is to stop caring what others think of you. In order to do this, one must be able to love themselves. Though it is tough for every girl and woman to do, it is important to our well-being to stop comparing ourselves and be comfortable in our own skin. There is such a feeling of relief when you no longer have to worry about other's opinions.
Search to widen your horizons
Be passionate and driven towards your goals. Strive to see the world, meet new people, and explore all the possibilities life has to offer. The rewards of experience are endless.
Don't expect others to know what you're feeling
Use your words; speak your mind. It is not helpful or kind to expect someone to know your feelings. It's similar to 20 questions, except your loved one only gets one guess before they are the victims of unnecessary anger. The best thing to do is tell them straight-up what you are feeling and what you need. Then your loved one will be best able to serve you in the way that is beneficial to you and your relationship.
Fill your life with substance
While having the occasional New Girl marathon is not discouraged, spending the majority of one's free time on the couch is not getting them any closer to their goals for life. Why not spend the time creating and building, whether it be through reading, gardening, taking a art class, or learning a new language. Much more is gained from time spent furthering knowledge and experience than that spent doing mindless activities.
Know your limits; stay in control
It is okay to be uncomfortable with a situation. One of the best things you can do for yourself is to be aware of your limits when taking risks and going out of your comfort zone. There is a noticable difference between bad risks and healthy risks. By knowing yourself well, you can control your situation and make the most out of every day, fun experiences.
Don't follow every trend
It is the life of a teenager, and any human for that matter, to follow the trends, whether they are Uggs, gossip, Twitter, swearing, Mean Girl shirts, or pumpkin spice lattes. I believe maturity is shown when a girl can choose, based on her own morals, which trends she will follow.
Be financially dependent
As a girl, my parents pay for many of my necessities: food, shelter, and soap. Once you reach a certain age, however, the best way to be an independent woman is to take control of your life and be your own provider. For example, when on dates, you could be a woman by splitting the bill. Don't be dependent on your partner to pay for everything.
Know how to maintain a stimulating conversation
One of the greatest problems I see in my peers is the lack of conversational skills. Pulling out a phone mid conversation is not a way to impress others or maintain healthy, long-lasting friendships. It is especially useful to know how to keep a conversation when meeting new people. I have met many girls who have relied on me to carry the conversation, and the friendship never happened. So I stress the importance of this quality.
Be the future
A person is only allowed one body. By taking care of yourself now, you are helping your future self. This sense of the long-term situations requires an imminent sense of maturity.
Most importantly, be yourself!
There are so many more ways you can build yourself as a woman and a person. Don't stop here.
What do you think is the most important part of being a woman?
I retrieved the photo used in this post from unsplash.com
I feel really bad about not having original photographs, but I don't have access to a camera this week as two of my cameras have stopped working and my Ipod is gone as part of an assignment.
I did not want to postpone posting, so I have temporary used a brilliant photo from my favorite site of FREE photos.
Thank you for understanding.
